I am not sold on the idea of a new tier as it will not solve anything. Part of the problem lies with "averages" as once saturation is reached it is meaningless.
The entire system is flawed in that respect and creating a new tier for the sake of it will not differentiate between the players.
For a long time now we have seen social players tiered up due to match play wins - they may have legend in their title but they are way out of their depth.
Now with the new CC Red tee events lower level players with top equipment will score better, and get tiered up as a result, regardless of their skill set.
See the problems? But WGT seem reluctant to not count these scores towards averages, they will certainly never reintroduce tier based equipment and are reluctant to allow "true averages" (and this could be manipulated easily at lower tiers).
For the record I am no tour legend, and never have considered myself good enough for the title. I still have about another 250 games to reach saturation and I complete all rounds. I never consistently get the ball close and when I score well it is because I putt well - when I don't you could swear I was a hack.
I am sure they will make changes at some stage, and as usual will probably be poorly thought through and poorly implemented.
