WGT refers to itself as the most realistic golf game.  While the graphics are great and WGT has done a great job capturing the nuances of the courses.  That being said, one of the simplest features of the game should be the wind direction and speed.  That being said, the wind is inconsistent and unrealistic.  For instance, on St. Andrew's holes 1-6 and  13-18 are all in the same direction (make sense since by definition most links courses have an inward 9 and an outward 9) yet when playing this sequence of holes the wind will be in your face on one hole and at your back at the next.  This doesn't make sense.........

All wind directions and speeds are random. There is a range of wind speeds that may be used, none, low, moderate and heavy, but other then that each hole is random.

Real wind is inconsistent. In both direction and velocity.

WGT wind does not take hole compass orientation into account, which is why 2 holes on the same course with the same compass orientation can have wind blowing in 180° directions

Appearances here are what makes the game so realistic "looking".

But then again, i miss a lot of greens and putts here, so I guess it can't get much more realistic than that.  ;-)

Wind is not wind here. Don't think of it was wind. They don't utilize wind models in this game.

Think of it as what it is, a constant interference applied to your shot based on the two points of your shot, as it is applied within a +- range. Tee and pin.

I've had the best recent results in getting the ball to land remotely near the pin by following Fmagnet's explanation and treatment in playing the wind. Not the simplest but certainly seems to be the most accurate so far. For me anyway....

Exactly what it is, dB. You forgot to ad club selection...lol!

@ OP - you'll notice that at times the "wind" has a completely opposite affect on the shot than you expected?

b0geybuster said it best - it's random - very random.

I didn't forget to add club selection, I just didn't. Club selection doesn't change the wind, well even in WGT's convoluted scheme of what wind is it shouldn't, the wind is set for the hole. There are so many ways to shoot that really, what do you say? Someone might be really good with fbs in wind another might be better with cb playing the rollout n green. I mean how you shoot is up to you.

I was simply pointing that that the wind is constant throughout the entire shot, it's not subject to elevation, obstructions (trees) or anything else. So if you see a big bank of trees thinking that the wind is going to act a certain way because of that, setting your shot different is a waste of time, as it doesn't apply.

Until someone from WGT comes in here from development and states that they're coding in environment factors, I've not ever seen anything to indicate they are, ever. There is no 'feel' to the wind, it's just math here.
