How about a forum thread stickied in some conspicuous place entitled "Game Lobby" ?
People could advertise for any type game they want to play, and other players could click right on their profile and invite them. And it could be coded so that it auto wipes out postings about every hour or so after they are posted to make room for fresh posts, and to prevent people from waiting exorbitant amounts of time for a game that may never come.
I know that it's semi-redundant, but it may help people connect.
