Good point , I have always been a where it ends. kind of a player

I found the NIke 85 irons went where I aimed them !

The distance to where the ball ends up is totally dependent on where that carry lands it. If you want to talk about total distance you have to divide the shot into 2 parts-where it lands and what happens after it lands.

In my original post I was referring to actual carry in the air. On a positive note during the last two rounds the 5 iron on four shots went much closer to the proper distance so who knows.................

You also forgot to mention that you have the 85+ irons and not the 97+ irons . The 85+ 5 iron is 190 yards and the 97+ is 195 yards . This fact changes everything . Most of the players responding have the 97+ irons , so their yardages will differ greatly from yours ,

That was made evident on page 1 in response to Mantis.

The rated yardage for a club is an approximation, not gospel. Several variables affect the actually yardage of a shot.

Most of my TaylorMade R11 irons hit the ball further than their rated yardage, even into a head wind, if I don't change the spin adjustment setting on the ball.

But, they are pretty consistent and I have learned to allow for each clubs performance.

By the way - back when I played real golf I used forged irons (Ben Hogan, Apex PC - Percussion Center) and had to regularly visit the pro shop to have them tweaked back to the loft and lie for my swing.

"Most" is a bit broad. It all hinges on the ball you're using. FWIW, the Tour-SD and the 97  Nikes = rated yards, including rollout.

The PW in my set  ( L97 Nikes ) is rated 120 yards, and is the only club in the set that will give me 6 - 7 yards extra with topspin.

It works perfectly at Beth #15 - back right pin -  whenver I am in that range.
