Forum posts I've seen answer basic questions about the Course Notebook but I'm looking for more details.   For example:

    • Does the notebook have a topography view of the green with arrows showing the slope direction?  That is what a professional course notebook has and it's extremely helpful on greens.
    • If no green topography maps are provided, how is the notebook better than a simple Word or Excel table that you create on your own and capture relevant notes?

I'd love to hear from someone who has actually purchased the notebook and used it.  Thanks

No to the topography info but you can enter in notes to describe topo once you figure out where you need to be on the green. Switch to a chip & reverse view and look at putting grid to understand topo around pin before playing the shot and make your notes.

    Advantages:

Under normal play book defaults to correct and hole and provides for quick review of notes as a pop-up without switching windows.

    Disadvantages:

During Clash event, book opens up on hole 1, doesn't track with hole

Notes aren't searchable and need to be closed to play the shot.

Depending on how long you've played and whether you want standard hole info or a shot history, book at some point runs out of room.

Hole info does not transfer to the Best of or CTTH courses, notebooks need to be filled out again.

FWIW, I'm not one that takes copious notes, the kind needed to really take it to the next level, so the WGT notebook works for me. I often play quickly without referring to notes or using any shot calculators but that is not a recipe to play at a high level, at least not for my abilities. There's a spreadsheet out there that has all the calculators and note taking ability all wrapped up and is a great tool if you want to track everything you want to do and it is searchable. Sorry I don't remember the name of who put it together but I am sure someone who's been around here longer will chime in with the info.

Parting thoughts, if you have a two monitor set-up and enough horsepower to not worry about meter stutter a separate notebook you can leave open on the 2nd screen while you are playing may be a better option.

it's better in the way that you can access it from any computer/OS/platform,
as easily as accessing your account, no need to launch a third party software,
no need to use a cloud file, and it automatically gives you the current hole
and course when you click it during play (WHEN it works properly).

you could use excel I suppose, many do,
but I find it to be a lot more convenient. especially on timer based rounds.
