    Jimbog1964:

    55 should do it I reckon.

    Not googled it, but on the basis my addled memory says a links course going to plump for that 55.  Hard to really capture the full difficulty of links golf here, even if still loads of fun.  Depends how they set the full conditions, but 55 is my wild card.

    I like links golf IRL and on here, and confident this one will deliver large.

    55 ?...that makes me sad :-{  I have yet to qualify for any of them fom Beth on and like Andy, it only means I'll roll a 56 ;-}

    depends on the green speeds

    If they do something like champ 15 or even faster (as the should, it is the virtual US Open so scoring should be crazy difficult), then we will see a high qualifier.

    If it is champ 13, then it will be another 57 or 56 to qualify

    I have not seen the course as I don;t play CTTH but assume it will be 57 to qualify, possibly 56.

    Regardless I have no chance and will give it a couple of attempts, but pointless wasting a ton of balls for something I have no chance at,

    Real wild card guess SP.  Have to see the conditions of course before we can really get a feel.

    Personally I would not want to see stimp 14 or 15.  For events like this the equipment we have is so good, but so is the auto dinger sadly for several.  If they could combat the cheats I might bow to that as needed bearing in mind the equipment we all have.  They can't do crap about the cheats though, and so 13 (14 max if we must) is enough IMO for most.  I think this game needs to try to retain as much realism as possible, and start throwing ultra fast stimps it's way is not the way.  Big discussion but if it plays anything like the other links (no real clue) and the conditions are sensibly testing 55 is my too early to really say wild card.   Tough one for WGT but realism wise it would be a crying shame to need much less, accepting scores in the 50s are already a shame really, but fun still to be had.

    You have a good game, and never know this one with the extra experience of another year:) . It's the only one I play the grind game on the VUSO, and so I will have my good few goes at it, and fingers crossed I will sneak in to qualify.  Be as far as I go as no way will I be shooting those incredibly low scores in SP final rounds mode.  Amazes me how with a first look at conditions each time on a brand new course, and still new feeling greens anyway with varying final round speeds anyone can, but they do and I never have :)

    Defeatist attitude, but one that is hard to argue with.

    Stimp 14-15 is very realistic for the US Open. 15 is standard Bethpage US Open speed. Oakmont in 2007 was running around 14.5.

    We also have Shinnecock waiving in the background with speeds that were MUCH faster than that (was probably around some of Shoe's crazy speeds)

    Don't know Chambers Bay at all, but looking real quick they look to be looking at quite that fast ? :

    8 on the Stimpmeter and not much rough. Add 800 yards, 2-3 feet on the Stimpmeter and raking the rough every day. I think it’ll be plenty up for the challenge.”

    Oak:

    "Yes, it is true. The club has to slow the greens down for the Open," said Mike Davis, senior director of rules and competitions for the USGA.

    The USGA wants Oakmont's greens at 13 to 13.5 for the Open.

    I don't have any issues if it stays close to RL testing, but IMO this game does not want to start getting too far away from that ideal where possible.  Cat is already out of the bag on equipment and "digitally enhanced internet cafes" granted, but where possible keep it close for the test.

    Beth can take real fast and Oak is just known as fast, but each course is different...

    Well, it is true. One of our players here, Doublemochaman (James), lives up in the Seattle area and has played Chambers several times. He is a pretty good stick and says the course is very, very penal. As it looks here briefly, it seems the greens are giant with a great deal of personality and with the potential to be two-faced at the least. And then, I suppose, if any genuine success there(Chambers), in an attempt to replicate the true nature of UK links golf, will include the fickle, bouncy nature of the tee ball's final destination...but who knows ? I am under the impression that it is quite lengthy ;-}

    I think some of the people on here, even if they've shot the front nine and back nine CTTH offerings, aren't comprehending how wicked the greens are ... shooting short iron, wedge, and mid iron shots aren't going to reveal the fact that the flat areas on those greens are relatively small around the pins. However there are back stops and side slopes that can be employed on some of the holes.

    In particular, I predict the par 4 #7 hole on the front nine will have people tearing their hair out and crashing mice into desktops if they have to hit anything but wedges at that elevated green.

    I wouldn't suppose the USGA would select benign pin positions for the U.S. Open ... there may be two or three "easier" ones on each nine, but you can bet your bottom dollar there are holes that will have you hurling profanities left and right.
