First of all let me say I would love to post a score in the 50's ,but surely scores should sort of reflect  scores in real golf.  Any thoughts?

Scores in the 50s primarily reflect the scores of gamers, not golfers. They will sometimes start 20, 30, 50 games before they take a round to it's completion. Par or bogey a hole? Quit and start over. Do it until you string together the eagles and birdies consecutively to achieve the scores that can't be done on a real life golf course.

Those gamers are probably a major part of WGTs income. They sometimes burn through a ton of golf balls in the quest to post that great score or win a tournament. Lose them and the game shuts down.

If WGT were to raise the difficulty level of this game to bring the lowest scores in line with real life golf, all the other players would be seeing their own scores balloon into the 80s, 90s or higher and quit because the game would not be as much fun for them.

WGT does have to walk a thin line trying to balance between gamers and golfers. If you find a country club that focuses on people who finish rounds, has quite a few single play tournaments or players who only play the unlimited ones only once or twice and you stay away from most of the WGT sponsored tournaments you will probably enjoy the game a lot more. Those unrealistic scores will be out of sight, out of mind.

Hi thanks for the reply. I agree with most  of what you say but making the courses harder would give them a fresh look  ie uneven lies and change the sometimes predictable pin positions.   cheers

First of all, can I say that with the level you are on, the tier that you are on and the gear that you are playing with you will never attain a score of 50.... There are some on here who purposely get to the higher levels so that they can purchase the better equipment but stay at the lower tiers so they can win cash, (credit) tourneys..

If you want to play GOLF!!! then join a country club that play for fun and company of the other members..

I have found that instead of trying to emulate the low score players just enjoy playing!! Makes this game a lot more fun..

I have a small club that does just that.. If you are interested just leave a note on my wall and I will get back to you..

The only rule we have is join in and have some fun.. No credits games but lots of weekly tourneys and ones put on by the club Directors.. But no reason why you can't create your own game if you wish..

We also put on Multi-Player games so you can meet the other members for a game..

Scores in the 50s are obtainable from grown up tees, and  are a direct reflection of being able to play this game well.  yes good equipment is needed there, same as in RL hickory sticks won't cut it.  Anything else is an excuse.

Some do it by restarting yes, but it can be done in SP mode quite often by several:)

Troubling to learn and practice - That old chestnut:)

True, Jim, that there are great players but not in great quantities that can put it all together at any given time. For example, in the Week 15 18-Hole Single Play Tournament there were only 28 players able to get under 60 with their only attempt. 23 of those 28 were the Legends and Tour Legends who have both the ability to play well and were able to put it together at the right time. Many others have the ability to play that well but didn't pull it off in their one attempt or they chose not to play that tourney at all.

Compare that to the huge numbers of sub-60 rounds in multi-play tournaments and you can see those who make multiple attempts dominate those tournaments and go low.

Never going to deny some want to play the ball burning game for whatever reason.  I don't look there as don't care to get involved in that exercise usually.

Those that can put it all together at any given time are very few but many can shoot sub 60 often that's all, no restarting required.  My only point is that there is nothing miraculous to being able to that in this game if you want to that's all.  Won't turn yo unto some dominating VUSO player, but sub 60 often enough is obtainable by many.  Definition of many I guess, but way more than the 28 that managed it in that 1 example:)

Equipment is the big difference, as other responders have said.

I notice from your own bag, you play with mostly starter clubs (and play some uneven lies rounds).

If more realistic scoring is your thing, you might be interested in joining in with the Tough-It-Out events. We're running a year-round Tour on the VT courses but each month we play 2 x single-play rounds with Starter clubs and ball and unevens. In this month's event no-one has yet broken par in R1 (2 days left to enter).

    They sort of already do.

Lowest 9-holes on the PGA - 26 - Corey Pavin

    Lowest 9-holes in a professional tournament - 25 - Jamie Kureluk

    Lowest 18-holes BY a professional golfer - 55 - Rhein Gibson  (par 71, 6,850 yds) & Steve Gilley (par 71, 5,959 yds)

I've played the course that Kureluk shot his 25 on, and it's certainly not an 'easy' course.  (Les Furber design, 6,836 yds, with a slope of 141 from the back tees)

There are a lot of players on 'WGT.  Many of them play quite a few rounds a day because they enjoy it; because they can; because it's a social avenue for them; etc.

When you get competitive people playing a game like this with only 17 courses to choose from (staying away from CTTH of course)  It doesn't take long to learn those 17 courses if one plays them all.  Many players, however will pick out their favorites and that is all they play, and there are some that I have seen that only play one or two courses and that is it.  In addition, WGT gave Legends and TL's the ability to play off the red tees (Red light district) for CC stroke play rounds and many of those scores are deep into the 50's

The point is, with only 17 courses to learn, even with all of the varied conditions, it is not unreasonable to see the low scores that are being turned in for some rounds/some players.   That is just another piece of the game that is unrealistic.  Also, WGT's method of "averages" is as far from realistic as anything in the game.  doesn't take away from the fun of it at all.  For those that play for credits...it's another story altogether.
