  I have just played my first matchplay challenge game. I have never really been interested in them previously, so I have to admit to being a bit green to any potential pitfalls when playing complete strangers for credits.

  My first experience has certainly opened my eyes, I got royally horsed. My opponent played very well, -6 after 6 on the front 9 on Bethpage. 5 putts and an holed out flop shot on the 5th. The most perfect display I have seen from any player recently. These things can happen, I've had the odd front 9 like that myself.....can't remember the last one mind, lol....

  Anyways fair play to the person, a nice win even if it was for a small sum. What I would like to ask the more experienced players in match play challenges, is there anything you look at prior to accepting a game from another player? What precautions can you take to give yourself the best possible knowledge of what to expect from your opponent? Is there anything you can do???

  I usually look at his score history and match play stats if i think he could be a sandbagger. If these stats confirm my suspicions, i bet 1000+ to scare him or make him play under pressure.

  Lol.....

  Certainly the matchplay stats of this player were nothing too impressive, losing record against legends and nothing fantastic against masters and tour masters. The ranked strokeplay stats very pretty ordinary too.

  I didn't notice at the time but is there a certain amount of time you are allowed before confirming you wish to accept the challenge?

  I never look at a thing, just glad to get a game because most people dump me in the lobby.  If they're a sandbagger great, they still better bring their game.

  Sounds like you just ran into one of those rounds.  I just blew a 2 up lead on Oakmont with 4 to go.  My opponent made some awesome putts to win in extras.  Never like to lose but always fun to see a fine display of virtual golf, even if it does cost a few credits.
