I really enjoy this game, but frankly I'm probably going to plateau at Tour Pro. This is fine by me. Given that I probably won't get to master, is it better for me to keep a hybrid or a 3 wood in my bag (once I upgrade my clubs)? For instance, in the case of L47 rapture 2 hybrid vs L47 rapture 3wood, which one is likely to be most useful? At Bethpage I'm pretty sure I'll need the hybrid. Everywhere else I may benefit from extra yards on the 3 wood. But the 3wood can only punch from the rough, and on long approaches with an obstruction protecting the pin, a 3wood won't be able to get there anyways because it needs to roll up to the green. I've read some other threads and Masters+ players mostly pick the wood; however I won't be playing from their tees, so that may not matter. So I'm leaning towards the hybrid, but I would like some feedback.

Look at your overall set up...its debatable whether to go with the hybrid or the 3W, but at least shoot for keeping a more even gap between the 3 iron and driver.  On the other end, look at keeping even gaps between your PW and your wedges as well.  For example, based on the clubs you have in your bag, the distance on your PW, rated at 80 yards, is even less than your Z Satin 54 which is rated at 85 yards.  My recommendation would be to get irons that compliment those wedges or go back to your Starter wedges until you are ready to upgrade.  Always be careful when buying random clubs as they can affect consistency throughout the entire set.

I totally agree with Joeyola about getting irons that compliment your wedges. You need continuity throughout your entire bag. As far as your wood/hyrbrid question goes, how often do you find yourself in the rough? And one thing to check the next time you play all 4 courses is after you tee off how far away are you from the pin after that 1st shot? Note the yardage and on the par 5's you should be laying up most shot's to within wedge range on your 2nd shot. So depending on what kind of yardage your looking at for every hole, that knowledge could aid you in selecting a club. Personally I would go with a 3 wood. But again that's what I have done and you may find that the hybrid is a more useful club. Well hope this helped ya a little bit. Good luck out there.

caupo-You're selling yourself short. You're here less than a month and while I understand how you could think this way at the start I also think you'll be changing your mind, soon too.

For starters, how many times in a round  do you or would you use your 3W/HB? Compare that to how many times you would use an extra wedge in a given round. A great way to master the courses at your early stage in this game is to play for par. Instead of gunning for greens looking for birdie opportunities and dealing with rough/traps because of that, lay up. This will force you to focus on your short game by getting up and down in 2. This way, when you do make the next tier (and I have no doubt you will) you will have developed the part of your game that is going to work for you at all levels-the short game.

Think positive, my man. This game grows on you and your sprout has just broken the earth. GL   :-)

Thanks for the replies guys.  Joeyola, my pw is 90 yds, but your point about creating good wedge gaps in my next set is a good one.  It is definitely something I will address.  Actually the cheap L14 wedges have been a great learning tool for me -- they have taught me spin control and immensely improved my short game.  Now I will be totally comfortable with the Satin wedges I'll get at L39.  Thanks Yoda and Yankee for the advice as well.  I guess I still don't know which club I will choose, but I suspect I'll be fine with either one plus a third wedge.  Although on Bethpage those long elevated par 4's really could use the hybrid.

Yeah. Listen to YankeeJim. If I would of looked at your stats then I may of told you something similar along with what I have already told ya. You've been here in the WGT world less than a month? Well see where your at in another month or two. I have been on here 5 months. I became a master in month number 4. So just do like YankeeJim said and give it some time. You'll get there.

    Caupo,

First, welcome to WGT.  I wouldn't worry about not advancing in level.  I joined WGT in May of 2010, and didn't mak Master until mid November...and I played daily, toiling with the club decision myself.  I, personally, waited to revamp my clubs until I was at a level 60.  I know that both YankeeJim and myself carry neither the 3W or a Hybrid.  I carry a 270 yard driver and irons that reach 210 yards, and I'm playing from Master's tee's, consistently shooting 32-33 now, and improving.  I too hit a long plateau at Tour Pro...a 5 month plateau.  This game is not like your typical video game...you won't master it in a day or two.  Keep your head up, and before you know it, you will be shooting 64 or better with the best of 'em.

Oh, by the way, you have managed to get replies from the great YankeeJime, Joeyola and Master Yoda on the same thread...impressive.

i have both, use hy on beth page, and throw away the big wedge.  use 3w keep big wedge on everything else.

works for me.  my 2 cents.
