I understand that the greens are different from course to course. So i have a question. Would it be better to map my irons by hitting them up and down a fairway OR by hitting from a fairway onto a green? It seems to me that hitting from fairway to green would give me a better indication of what kind of roll out i could expect when applying different degrees of spin,so that is the way i am leaning at present. I did a forum search on mapping irons and ran across a thread concerning this and am looking for a little more insight beyond what i read. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Knowing the landing point, regardless of fairway or green, should be the main goal. With that in hand you will be able to think accordingly facing any shot.

The amount of rollout you will get is dependent on the specific hole you are playing as well as the green speed. I would just map the landing distances. As for fairway or green, map to a flat spot in terms of elevation ... doesn't matter if it's green or fairway.
