....I have to disagree that a person's average has nothing to do with playing ability. I would agree that it is only one many indicators. I should also mention that I am a 69 avg legend and was once accused of sand bagging....I have never done that and didn't even know the term could apply to legends...lol. I did happen to play way above my pay grade that particular game, but we have all had those types of games.
I think a better indicator of sand-bagging is a lower tier wanting to play for credits and usually winning against much higher tier players. The closer tee advantage may explain it somewhat, but the simple fact that he or she wants to play for money or credits indicates there is something amiss (IMHO).
As an aside, I am often told that I'm a better player than my average, but I only play alternate or match...solely for the social experience. As most know, these types of games have no impact on average, however, it is inevitable that I would improve given the amount of games I play (over 6200 Alt games and counting)
