  Well, if the title didn't say enough, this is the issue I've been having as of late:

  e.g.

  114yds to pin (down 1ft).

  Clean fairway lie.

  Wind is almost straight left to right 14-16 with a little bit of a tailwind.

  I want to hit my 115yd pitching wedge a tad under full b/c I'm expecting the wind to help some, it's basically level, and it's not exactly 115yds.  Plus my balls add (or are supposed to add) distance.  And, when I say a tad, I mean around 110-12 yds.

  I aim about 15-20 yds left of the pin and fire a dinger.

  The video shows the result --> way right and short.

  Hmmmmm, maybe I need to buy more precise clubs?

  And to clarify, I know 3-4yds doesn't seem like much, but when it happens with long irons, it's more like 10-15yds.  Might as well be a mile.

  1. That hole plays a little long, I always give a little extra power to add a couple of yards to the shot distance.
  2. Doesn't the distance attribute for the ball add yardage to the drive only ?
  3. The spin attributes for your ball and pitching wedge together will reduce the shot distance and cause the wind to have a greater sideways effect.
  4. Don't you mean 15-20ft left of the pin.
  5. I find that even dinged shots with backspin get taken for a massive sideways ride, so perhaps a slight mis-ding into the wind is better.

  1--> Just cranked a shot on that hole and ended pin high (aimed 6-8yds further than I would normally).  Guess I'll use that logic when playing that hole.

  5--> This.  Thanks for that tidbit.  I'll be sure to keep that in mind; however, I used to play off the ding a lot, but I've started to have non-dinged shots lose a tonne of yardage.  For example, I'd always hit a little early if the wind left to right and a little late if it was right to left, but I fear doing that these days lest I lose 20yds on an iron approach.

  Thanks a lot for that.  Makes me feel a little more prepared.

  One other thing to bear in mind, if you have a direct crosswind ⇦ or ⇨ you will aim a little left or right to compensate which, in effect, means you will be hitting slightly into the wind, so that will take some distance off too.

  I'm only quoting what I've read in the forums mk, I haven't done any tests to prove or disprove this.

  It would seem a bit odd though to give a ball a distance attribute, then only apply it to one type of shot.

  The distance attribute adds yardage to all shots, but the spin attribute takes it off and turns it into height. The more loft the club has, the more the spin outweighs the distance, and vice versa.

  +1 you told me this info a few months ago.

  Plus the loft of the PW, a ball with a notable spin rating, and the G25s (I loved them) w/ the high loft then the expected roll back. I'd try it w/ no spin or little and map a few shots. I had luck w/ the Cally 37 ball & Nike 42.

  I may be wrong here, but Scott was referring to the ft vs yds there.

   

   

  My thinking in this instance is if you have to aim so far left or right for big crosswinds your shot will have a longer path of travel instead of the yardage shown for a straight line distance.
