I've noticed a lot of the time, if you are say 30 yards from green, and the option cpu has given you first is a pitch shot, if you change to full swing, a lot of the time, the full swing acts like a pitch shot and not the usuall full swing.

    Hi,

It may seem so but it's not. The reason you may think that is because full swing is rated for a lot longer yardage, so when you choke it (hit 50% power for example), it will never get it's true flying trajectory and will fly much lower and run more. It's not a pitch though.

I realise what you're trying to explain, but a lot of the time i use the 50 wedge halfway and above if it is too awkward for a pitch or chip, and it is always aprox 23 + yards, and it is v. similar to full swing, it goes up and down and ball doesn't run far at all, maybe 2 yards max, and i can get it to within 2 yards of hole 9/10 times, but sometimes, it turns out like a pitch shot where it lands short and runs the rest of the yardage, but  not always the same distance (21 yards, or sometimes shorter, depending on the green) as a full swing.  It just puzzles me because 8/10 times you get a full swing, up and down (maybe not as high) but 2/10 times (mostly when offered the pitch and change back to full swing) it occurs.  Its just an observation, not any sort of complaint or anything, i just thought it might be connected to being offered a pitch shot first.

You said it yourself, you are trying to hit the club less than 50%. The arc is never developed to it's not flying evenly. Instead try flop from inside 30 and if you get into rough or sand, then full 50 will work since you have to add alot of yards to your usually much shorter shot to get close.

I know what you want to accomplish, have 50 yarder play as true from 50 as from 25, so you can get close and backspin it to stay.... Unfortunately it does not work like that and if that's your goal, then layup as I often do on some holes. Then I can take advantage of a full club and the attributes it comes with

I don't expect to land and backspin, its just that myself, and a lot of other members aswell, if facing an awkward 25 + yarder to hole, we use wedge full swing OVER halfway power, (halfway is aprox 23 yards), most of  the time it goes up, lands, then rolls 2 yards, you could bet your house on this happening all the time, but if you've been offered pitch first (just happened to me now from b'page at 29 yards), and turn from pitch to full it lands short and rolls the rest, just like a pitch shot, (sometimes). AS i said, but you misunderstood, i use the wedge full swing from halfway +, never under.

Chris, you have to keep an eye on your lie percentage, especially at Bethpage. WGTicon's explanation is spot-on. Hitting wedge shots up-hill will lose momentum quickly. Its imperative that you hit up-hill wedge shots with at least 5 additional yards of power on top of the additional added yardage from a high percentage lie.

    Use ball spin accordingly.
