I posted this in my club forum, but I've reposted so my wife can read it too: Someone will make a smart remark, but that's ok it's expected here:

"I think I know why I keep playing even though I've given up on WGT ever making this game better, or even returning it to what it was. The other day I watched the Will Smith/Matt Damon movie Bagger Vance,(one of Will's best I think). It's the story of a young war vet who gets to play a match with the two greatest players of his time. His caddy(Will) inspires the vet to reach beyond what he thinks he can do. One line in the movie is something close to " golf isn't a game that can be won, only played" . I,(and others I think), keep playing even when I've accepted that I will never reach the level of some who play this game yet I play because the next shot might be one that I say "wow, I did that?!" and watch the replay twice!

WGT Golf, like the real game, is a hard task master, but as Bagger says it's a game that can't be won, only played.  :-)"

Nicely said.  I get so frustrated with this game and yet find myself logging on and playing another round.

    Thanks,

    Hear, hear!

I am still playing it for the views - those beautiful HD pics which make up the courses!

My new favourite: An airborne cross view on PB #2 or #3 green, showing the shore line of #18 in the distance.

And, same as in real golf, there are two reasons to play tomorrow:
Either to repeat the good round of today, or to purge memory of the §$%$§ round by a better one!

For many, the grind is a valid reason, too.

    I play because it's a good challenge!

I injured a part of my shoulder that will for ever prevent me from ever making a full swing in real golf.  That has been over 20 years ago.  I never got good enough to be able to brag on my play, but there was always a shot or two that recharged me and my desire to continue embarrass myself on the courses.

Here it can be tough to do well for reasons other than just the programmed play.  That is unfortunate but you gotta take the good with the bad and hope that the good will always be better than the bad.  Now go out and hitt'em straight and long!  my nickle.

Great post TracyMax, and oh so true.

The day (not that it will ever happen for me) that I always shoot super low without any effort, will be the day I give up.

Still a great game whether you score low or high, just set yourself goals.

You lost me at "Will Smith".  He hasn't made a good movie yet without the words "men" and "black" in it.

Bobby Jones said "Golf is a game that is played on a 5 inch course - the distance between your ears".

A nice link between WGT and Bagger Vance is that it was filmed on Kiawah.
