Thanks Infinito.  As much as I love the banter with Lizzie, I was looking for some genuine answers to my question.

So, would you say then that a freebie ball and a GI3-S ball (no extra distance dots) would travel the same distance but in different ways?

I would go out onto a course and hit a shots with different balls, but the problem there is that the wind conditions are always different; we really do need that driving range, one where we can set our own desired conditions.  WGT obvioously don't see the value in this, they don't see that we might hit 100 shots on a driving range - that's a ball wasted and closer to buying a new sleeve!!!!

well if you do sell your house, you could sleep in the recycle bins, since that idea appears to have been not only shelved, but summarily and roundly dismissed with a smack for Lizzie and her inherent temerity.

Well, the idea about recycle bins was mentioned in a rather quiet voice in the middle of a huge arguement where no one (except me of course) was listening.

But, whether they thought good or bad of the idea, me sleeping in the recycle bins is not.  How could you!  I've gone right off you!  :-p    :-b    :-B

Under no wind conditions the 1 dot of spin will make the ball travel less. You will note a little more carry with less roll and the overall impact less distance.  The freebie ball has no spin characteristics.  The best way to get a handle with different balls and the same club is to use CTTH.  There is a myriad of them.  Try using the low wind conditions as a benchmark.  Take lots of notes.

The easiest way to describe the impact of spin is as follows.  More spin (back spin) creates more lift.  The dimples on the ball create less drag and the characteristics of the dimple provide the lift.

The chareristics of a ball is in it's engineering. The free ball is generic, constucted out of inferior, inexpensive materials, with minimum performance in mind. in other words it's cheap. You get what you pay for.

All materials are the same, its a cpu golf simulator (maybe this works on a REAL course) lol

Earlier today I went out onto St Andrews 1st hole for a game of ping pong.  I used STA #1 because it is wide and very flat.

Armed with the freebie ball, the GI3-S ball and the Callaway i(z) ball, I teed off with my 3-iron from the champ tees and low wind.  I then proceeded to hit my 64 degreee wedge as a full shot (60yds) backwarsds and forwards up and down the fairway with no spin, full backspin and full topspin and made a note of the results.  I found the results quite interesting, although I didn't expect much deviation with such a short club.

I think I will do this with all of my irons to compare results.  If people want to see them I will be happy to post them up.

I, for one, would like to see your results - please post when ready. Thanks!

Is so in real golf, and WGT creates virtual balls with that in mind.  You think a Calloway preforms the same as a free ball? Try it.
