  Hi everyone.

  I am currently using the Wgt sd tour balls and it has a spin rating of 2. I  switch between them and the l35 callys which has a 2.5 spin rating. My question to you guys is this. Does the extra stopping power of higher spinning balls come from just the extra spin or a higher flight coupled with extra spin.

  My understanding is that a higher spinning ball will give you a higher trajectory ( more backspin= more lift) but because of the 0.5 difference between the above balls i can't see anything. Some nike balls I see has a spin rating of 5. So if I would play them next to a l35 cally ( green dot in the middle of the ball) and take a screenshot at the apex of its flight, would the nike ball be higher? Or would the extra distance rating of the ball give it a higher flight.

  Yes, with full back spin the higher spin ball will have higher trajectory.

  That is a really great question. I use (90% of the time) the Nike Plat, with spin at 5. That ball married to the high falutin' clubs I use (all rated high flight) makes an answer super difficult to come by. Neutral spin simply stops. Using TS or BS with this marriage is not so much visual but certainly reactive. With back-spin the effect is more of a distance factor more than a visual, dramatic reversing of ball spin. In other words that are plain, a 150 yard club with back-spin may only travel 140-145 but without seeing the ball land at 150 and spinning back 5 or 10 yards but instead just landing that amount short, then just stop. Without further words, the top-spin works in a similar fashion but with the visual of additional forward roll-out. As I warned, it is a great question. In general, BS will travel with higher flight.

  interresting question.

  Never thought much about this

  My personal experience is only with the driver when at times i had to carry sand bunkers that where sometimes a close call and i had to pay close attention to wind also.

  I noticed that carry was about the same for no spin to full backspin.

  This may not be true for other club / ball combinations

  Total distance with full backspin was shorter of coarse the ball stops quickly after touch down.

  Pretty sure there was a difference in max height of ball flight to make that work.

  On Iron shuts i generally add some power when using full backspin to make up for the lesser roll out.

  Thanks for the replies. So are you guys saying that a L35 cally would react like a Pro V1 (pictured below) and the Nike Plat would react like the Pro V1x? Or is  the example below more like a  comparison between the Nike Black And the Nike Platinum?

  I know in real life the Pro V1x are used by players who swing super fast ( above 105 mph) and the Pro V1 by players swinging slightly slower ( exceptions include guys like Rickie Fowler who plays the Pro V1), but here on Wgt we all Swing exactly the same and our swing speeds are all exactly the same.

  That is why I was thinking with the different kind of balls we have at our disposal we will be able to see a big difference in trajectory when playing our stock shots i.e. without adding backspin or topspin but keeping the dot in the middle of the ball.
