I use the standard balls and B-ES balls almost 5 years.

First with Ping irons Level 83 spin 3  now with Nike Irons Level 100 spin 4,5.

You can use these balls on some courses. Obviously these balls give big problems on the distances. Speaking of tier on some par 5 is impossible to reach the green on the second shot.especially if the wind is contrary. Sometimes with strong wind in favour is best to bring a parachute.

Advantages: Credit 0 or credit 10

    Disadvantages:

Tourneys: Days ago I tried Oakmont Qualifier with B-ES balls. You can play but get a good result it is hard. I don't to say impossible but really hard.

Match: If your opponent use balls "pull & paste" you're in trouble. Beat your opponent depends on your knowledge of the course and greens. You must play on courses that  have no too long fairway distance.

Alternate? You can put your pard in problems about distance. It's best that your pard may know that you are using standard balls.

Blitz & ctth: I used only the standard balls and then the B-ES and i got excellent results.

The choice of the course and its good knowledge is important

Theres some great players on here use them tdonm. They have them mapped to perfection, in fact they would struggle if they changed...........think they would get hang of it sharp though.

    wait what

    why?

    they have no spin

Yip you can spin (full or 3/4) it to hold you think, then you find yourself 15 foot short and start questionning your maths , or pitch and the ball flies backover to again...15 foot short.

These folk know the greens, where to land it, half B/S and let it use the gradients, no B/S nad let it roll to hole...........too much to mention really

Personally i use Callys, i have Nikes but struggled with them. To improve i may start using them again but doubt it as im doing ok now and happy with that

Zio held hand up and i know many others who could wip average/good players butts with the rocks.

For sure yo can play them, and have fun with them.  There are some real good players with them, but their choice and they are not competing with the elite in good comps. They very well could, but they choose not to.  I know it's money but the L33 cally from from a golfing POV was as far as balls should have gone here at most many would say.............Is what it is and if want to compete in the bigger stuff need a bit more than starters even before the top tiers.  I do think people use more than they need often, but their fun and money.

True indeed Jim. Really it was just for OP info as he may think he has to splash credits galore to enjoy........compete yes, enjoy for cheap....no

    ZioMio:

+1 but I also use the Tour SD but that depends on the course . It makes for a great practice ball and you can shoot good scores with it . As others have stated you also need to know course management good shot selection knowledge and also ball placement . Once you learn these things then you can play well with any ball but its a learning process .

Unless you plan on playing in the top RGs or premium tournaments you dont have to hock the farm to buy expensive balls . The better clubs will allow you to play with the less expensive ball and get good results . But the lower end clubs will not give you top results with a more expensive ball and thats due to the lower clubs attributes .

I play exclusively with starter balls since I started playing WGT and I've been quite happy with them with no complaint (well... at least up to tour master tier).

But now at legend tier with some unreachable PAR-4s in 2 and those holes where you have to use long irons with less backspin & lower trajectory which drastically reduce the accuracy and most of greens being as hard as concrete, scoring sub-60 or even somewhere around 60-62 has become a really tough challenge. But hey... they're free of charge so what do you expect, huh?

I have recently switched to the freebies and it's a struggle but I am determined to master them. This is mainly down to WGT taking my balls after x number of strokes. I lose enough balls on my own without them randomly taking something I have paid for!

^^^^^^^^ what do you think the number of hits are on the ball ?

They dont randomly take them, a 2.5 durability gets you about 120 hits then its used up.

They are a businesss and thats their main earner.

I'm just about to hit level 95 and have always used the starters. You just learn how to play with them. The only downside is I struggle to score well on some of the long courses due to the lack of distance (yes Im talking about you Chambers Bay) especially when hitting against strong winds there.

Overall they are fine thought however if you want to compete with the big boys you need more than the starters.  It's probably one of the reasons I'm stuck in the average player category as I refuse to upgrade my balls the other reason being I can't putt but that's another story.

    Cheers
