If you take a look at people's profiles the majority seem to engage in Alt Shot games most of the time. The format is superb, lots of cameraderie and banter, and above all, fun. For most people this is what golf is about, having fun with friends, be it real golf or virtual. No one particularly wants to play on their own if they don't have to.
At the same time as having fun, I'd say (and hope) players also want to improve. Improving (reducing ones average) in this game leads to Tier promotion. Playing regularly leads to Level promotion. And this is where the system falls down slightly. Where one plays Alt Shot games 75% of the time, their game is improving and their Level is increasing, but their Tier remains the same. Some have said in the past that you cannot have ranked Alt Shot games because one is only playing half the shots. But to that I would say that it takes two to tango; both players contribute to a good score.
If you look at other (real) sports where players play doubles (e.g. tennis, badminton), rankings exist and are subject to change for each player. So I see no reason why this could not be adopted in WGT. My suggestion would be decreasing each winner's average by 0.1 x margin of victory. So, if someone won 3up their averages would be cut by 0.3. If this is too much, then alter the 0.1 to whatever is reasonable. Or maybe even just reduce the average simply by 0.1 or 0.2 for a win regardless of score.
I play a lot of alt shot games, but, unlike some players on here (and I can't for the life of me fathom out why) I want to progress from Master through Tour Master and to Legend, and I find myself having to forcibly enter singles games to try reduce my average in order to achieve that. Making Alt Shot games ranked would solve that problem. By having them non-ranked, it is basically implying that one is not improving... which is quite simply not true.
Making Alt Shot games ranked would also help kerb sandbagging a little by not allowing players to Level up by playing non-ranked Alt Shot games but at the same time remaining at a low Tier... and then entering a big prize tournament using the best equipment off forward tees.
