14 yards from the pin, 40%-50% lie, SW good for 22 yards.  I'm about 7 yards from the green on a HUGE down-slope...I want to just catch the green and let the ball role to the cup.

I hit 50% on the power meter (ding it) with no spin and the ball goes 2 yards.  WTF???  It doesn't even get out of the deep rough.

Do virtually the same thing, but with about 90% power...now the ball FLIES 20+ yards and rolls another 15.  WTF!!!!?????!!!!

So, what is the correct way to adjust power with the lie?  I've always added the percentage of the lie to the power meter.  e.g. if I need to hit 100 yards from a 30% lie with a club good for 125 yards, I do this:  100/125 = 80% power + 30% of the remaining 20 on the meter, which is 6, so I hit 86%.  Is that how you guys do it?

IMHO, Starter wedges and 50% meter power do not fit together well, nor do those delicate pitch and chip shots. from 40/50%. You might try (1+0.4)*7 = 10 yds with a punch or flop AND A DECENT CLUB.

Rule of thumb for shots around the green:

    - auto proposal of pitch or chip is misleading in most of the cases, chose shot type by yourself. Take Full in case of doubt!

    - Pitch must fly to short-mowed stuff, chip even to fringe or green.

    - Don't throttle the Starters below 75%, even if you overshoot by far.

    - Starter wedges are crap. Change as soon as quality clubs are available (L28 Cleves, L41 ATVs, ... L75ish ATV or Cleves).

Interesting stuff guys, I never heard of these Formulas, maybe i can learn something.

Alosso, you kind of lost me on that Formula (1+.4)*7=10 yds are you talking

about the 14 yard shut from 50% rough?

Consider flop shots for flag locations that are too close to a bunker or the edge of the green. But you absolutely have to get close to the ding or the shot will end up a whole lot too short.

I add 10% virtual length for 30-40 rough 15% for 40-50 rough 25% for 30-40 bunker and 35% for a 40-50 bunker. This is all for wedges. Longer Irons may need different factors or don´t work at all if you are in a bunker or even just in heavier vegetation.

No - The OP's idea was to hit the fringe at 7 yds. I'm afraid I have to limit the formula to a flop shot, and only with my equipment.

For any (possible) distance out of rough, I add the lower lie % number to the distance. Thus, for 7 yds from 40/50 rough, it's an extra 40 % to the length: (1+0.4)*7. From the rough, it will roll, but that's intentional here.

I'm playing my flops with full bs and by aiming to the left and dinging the shot.
