It's remarkable for anyone to win a batting title in their rookie year, especially as an 18 year old. That's equivalent to Bryce Harper winning this years NL Batting Title.

Be pretty hard for Harper....seeings that he got sent down to the rookie leagues so soon in spring training.

Looks like he will be a star, barring injuries of course.

Cal's consecutive game streak is one of a few records that is most probably unbreakable. Along with Cy Young's career wins and innings pitched. Johnny Vander Meer's 2 consecutive no hitters. Walter Johnson and his 110 career shutouts. In fact, many of the all time pitching records will never be broken due to the 5 man rotations that are used now and how careful organisations are with there top pitchers.

I can only think of Babe Ruth being a hall of famer born in Baltimore

You nailed a few good ones. Another consideration to show how hard it was for pitcehrs back in the past, pitchers usually pitched entire games. There were no specialy positions like closer and set-up man. Some pitchers back then pitched for over 20 innings in one game.
