I know I'm not the only one who forgets to check the putter when I'm an inch on the fringe and ten foot away from the pin, to draw back and watch my ball disappear like its been fired out of a gun, yes I didn't notice that I was putting with the 100 scale or 150

As a suggestion why can't the default setting for the putter be the shortest scale, I'd like that always  - if you're 70 foot from the pin you always check your scale - but certainly from the fringe, its the most ridiculous thing to default to 100 or 150, putting IRL from the fringe you just give it a bit more, forget to check in this game you're 35 foot or more past the hole, cursing that a possible birdie has turned into usually at best bogie

Its things like this that really get to players when it would be simple to rectify - its not indicative of real golf which is what you're trying to replicate, its just an annoyance and sometimes your attitude seems to be your problem deal with it.

Its my problem finding a good shot out of fescue, not thinking if I'm inside ten foot the scale on my putter should reflect that

I suspect it would not solve your issue anyway. People forget to check scale, so if you have 90ft putt and 30scale, it's same as other way around

I think it's fine as is

    same subject,different note.

noticed that the begginers putter has  a right push now on 90% of the putts,I know what you will say,but let me say first, once in a while is ok,I understand, but it is the most consistant thing in the game now....Odd,and no I will not get a better putter,

As far as Im concerneed ,Its the best putter you have.

Many are finding that out.But there is no $ in that,

I  use a home made hickory putter ,Weighted at both ends .A very sweet putter.

                                                                                                              go fig.

nav.buy the way this is on all ding putts that push right, and on a 90 foot putt that is one small tick right of ding on holes 4 and 5 st an.,,shoots 30 ft right,up the hill.lol

Its not fine as it is - if it defaults to the lower scale you can't do too much damage - people tend to check scales when they know its outside the normal range.

Thats why there are problems (and there are I've seen posts about it) - if you know your putter scale is low 25 and your putt is 21 on a tourny green then yes sometimes you will forget to check - if the putt is 90 foot you will change your scale, you would get less errors.

You think its fine, I don't - you make a bad shot and end up on the fringe at the back of St Andrews #1 then watch your ball race away into the burn because you forgot to change your scale from the 150 it magically gave you.

Here's something that's even worse.  I'm on the green, 18ft away, TM tourney greens.  I hit what I thought was 16ft... but WGT had given me the 60ft scale!!!  Ball went 34ft.

Why would you give 60ft scale for 18ft putt???  There was no elevation change either.  My suggestion would be to not give anything as default but let the player choose what they want, that way you can't catch us off guard as I was.

That led to a dropped shot which cost me 1st place in a RG.  I guess you got what you wanted!

Just a thought.... if  the ball is on the fringe, why is our caddy handing us the putter in the 1st place?!  Most of us know that shot only breeds madness. I think my caddy has been on a bender since 1979, I just keep him around for the cold beer he has stashed in all of the ponds.

I know for me personally, I've just been burnt one to many times, seeing what I thought was a "good ball" barely move and have that 1 blade of grass stop it dead. Simple solution for me again, bring out the wedge and try the shot I feel good about. I just do not trust the flatstick in the cabbage patch.

    Just my loonie  :))
