If you are in a practice round using the WGT or Callaway balls I dont think you should lose a ball if you hit in the water or if they just wear down.  These balls are pricy and I think that the durability and losing them in the water should only apply to ranked rounds.

What happens if you hit your ball into the lake in real life? This game just tries to be as realistic as possible.

Practice round is just like A ranked round or tournament if you hit a bad shot you lose the ball.

Speaking of Practice rounds, personally, I think you should be able to have mulligans in Practice mode.  In a real life practice round this is permissible.  Even the pros hit a second ball in their practice rounds.  This would give the the ability to work in new clubs, try different shots into a given pin, etc, etc.  If this were to happen, the issue of lost balls and ball wear would have to be addressed (or not).

well losing balls always hurts but not as much as if its the last of 1 type you revert to the dreadfull free unlimited ball instead of what wgt or callaway balls you might already of purchased but are not using for this game. Also it would solve this problem if wgt had a pratice range that you could use for a small fee like 5 or 10 credits to get your swing timing down same with a practice green..    SlowPokeJim
