I was reading about that earlier today. Interesting.

Some changes make total sense, some I didn't know weren't already implemented. I think the one that will be the biggest talking point is about dropping the ball from one inch instead of at arms length.

And I get that they want to speed play up and that's certainly not a bad thing, but recommending no player takes more than 40 seconds to hit a shot is going to be impossible to police I think.

The "grounding of the club " rule was always a pet hate of mine , too easy to cost shots by touching a bit of flotsam etc ( which did occur not too long ago in the PGA from memory ) and enough said about DJ's penalty at Oakmont, the new rule will certainly help on slippery/windy days.

Good luck to all who still swing the clubs, three steps forward and two steps back as always with new rules and innovations.

    Cheers from Al

The banning of caddies helping players line up their shots is another very sensible idea also, seems ridiculous players need this !!

Allowing use of distance calculators and rangefinders is a backward step, they should be banned outright as artifical aids. I am of the "old school" maybe, but I did manage to get down to 2 handicap without them, just used the course notes. But I suppose that's progress for you !!

'In a document outlining the first substantial review of the rules since 1984, R&A and the USGA outlined their goals for tinkering with rules that are so complex, multi-layered and unforgiving that friendships have crashed over the rustle of a leaf' -

Two reasons why this review of the rules will benefit the game. It makes golf more accessible and heaven forbid, it makes it more fun!
