    lee22sharon:

If I were allowed, I would replace my PW, buy the mack daddys, and still keep my 64 cleveland!   Something to think about.

    I think most would.

If the RTX 3 wedges came out in a 52, 56, 60, 64 and we could actually ditch the PW I'd do it in a heartbeat.  Once I reached the XP level required that is...

Some free rental weekend testing results...

Currently, trying the Fusion driver (L85) and 3w (L86), the Steelhead irons (L85), and two (56 & 60 degree) Mack Daddys (L67, L68).  My trusty RTX 64-deg (L80) and Nike putter (L89) round out the set.

Since I have the equivalent Nike clubs, I played several practice rounds (Legend setup, PB, PH2, RSG, StA) comparing the brands, head-to-head with the drivers and 3 woods, and alternate rounds with the irons.  Using a Callaway L33 ball, both brands performed about the same: carry distance, roll, wind effect, and response to spin increase/decrease.  Although it could be a placebo, I found the slower meter Callaways slightly easier to ding consistently.

Comparing the wedges was a different story: the difference in precision, forgiveness and spin is readily apparent.  Rated distance is the same for the 56-deg MD and 56-deg RTX for all the shot types, and similarly for the 60 degree clubs.  Full fairway shots required 33% backspin to get the MD to stop like the RTX (moderate wind conditions).  Rollout wasn't predictable either.  Overall I found the MD shots were at most 2-4 yds off from the RTX.  With practice, I could probably learn to reduce that margin.  Recovery from sand or rough seems to be similar.  Was hoping the MD would conquer the 60/70 rough, but so far I haven't seen it.

Finally, I have begun playing rounds using all the trial clubs, with 64-deg RTX, Nike putter and Callaway L33 ball.  So far, they're all ending up as expected: similar stats, and scores.  I do find the MD's nicely meter matched to the rest of the set, and that makes the RTX meter seem pretty fast.

I have a feeling that when I go back to my L9x TM clubs (longer, higher flight, more accurate, but less-forgiving), I will spend a lot of time in unpleasant places until I re-learn how to manage the 3.0 meter.

    Play well, --Berto

Trying the L100 Callaway irons...not bad, but not much different from the (formerly) L100 Nike set.  Only difference is meter speed, 3.5 for the Nike, 3.7 for the Callaway...hardly noticeable.

    Berto,

That 3.0 meter on the TM Rsi2's was what made me give them up and move to Nikes.  I was inconsistent in my swing timing, but did find that playing a few holes first with the starter ball would help.

    Good Luck

After spending a little more time with the L100 Callaway irons, am beginning to like them.  Not a great deal of difference from the Nike, but they seem just a tad bit easier to control.  Maybe it's the slightly slower meter, or maybe just a bit more precision...although the numbers are the same for precision and forgiveness.

Hell, maybe it's just the fun of playing with different toys.  ;-)

    lol, probably...

Liked the Mack D 75 & 100y wedges..never had Cleves and that extra .5 spin just backs the ball up enough hitting 0 spin, to give a couple of chances at the hole out.

Tried the Sabertooth m2 putter with mixed results..hit a 100ft putt 23 and it went 18, hit another 17ft putt that just flew at the hole uphill, to ram the back of the cup and bounce up but also 5 birds and an eagle too in an UEL 9....

Doesn't seem to need hitting as firm as the Nike all round.

Good putter with a few days practice I feel.

Andy, I got the Sabertooth M1 a while back to replace the Nike M1, and I agree...doesn't need as firm a hit as the Nike.  It's a solid putter and worth the price imo.

Got about an hour left on the rental Callaway irons, trying to decide whether or not to take advantage of the 10% discount...would save about 400 cr, so not a bad deal at all.

Could stay happy as a clam with the Nike irons to be sure.

edit:  Actually have got almost a full 24 hrs to get the discount, and have credits to burn...think I might just have to reward myself for no good reason at all.  ;-)

another edit:  By selling back the Nike irons and taking advantage of the 10% rental discount, got the Callaway irons for around 3000 cr...new toy day is always fun.

    :-)

Thanks, Phred.  A mate from my CC recommended the same.  Kinda like hitting a bucket of ranger balls to warm up IRL...  Seems to work well, but as you discovered, it's quite the challenge to hit the RSi2s consistently well.  If I'm playing several rounds in a row, I have to go back every so often for a range refresher.

    Cheers, --Berto

Congrats, Mark.  Since I'm still months away from the L95's, I may go for the Nike-to-Callaway (L85) trade-in.  An extra ding or three really improves the round. :-)

    Cheers, --Berto
