Well I stepped away from WGT for awhile due to work commitmenets family etc.

Just started playing again few months back.

So today I braved the elements and had a go t the Erin Hills Qualifying Tournament.

Couple double bogies but 4 birdies got me to even on Championship greens.

Proud of my mediocrity at scoring PAR on this new never played it course, totally gob smacked to see the CUTLINE AT 12 UNDER PAR.

    WTF ? Seriously ?????

It'll go to -16 soon enough, maybe lower.

    THATS JUST LUDICROUS !

Seeing we can't go down in player rankings, maybe the powers that be should consider doing bracket levels based on scores.

I'm  supposedly a Tour Master on 69or -2 to -3 under.  Havent shot an under score in 3 years.  So how do I compete against guys shooting birdie a hole golf ?

It's almost turned the game into Professional players and left nothing for the once a day/2 days/week warriors to just fart around trying but never achieveing

    You don't, nor do I.

This competition is equal for all - from the tips - so only the best with the best equipment may contend. It's like the real USO - anyone and everyone may enter the qualifiers, but only a few survive.

Yes spot on - think its time to make professional players and amateur players.

Amateurs might win a golf ball and kudos.  That might keep those that have mastered the game in their own paddock competing against each other trying to win the almighty prize pool. LOL

I haven't even had a chance to play it yet and the cut line is already 60. I'll try but probably another year not making the cut 🙁

I just played the qualifier, and it's the first time I've seen the course (I avoid the 'closest to the pin' games).  I thought the same thing others did when I saw the cut was already at 59, but I just shot 61 and I left a bunch out there.  Failed to birdie 2 par 5's and two other short holes (4 and 11)  where I was 70 yards from the green.  The greens are really easy, especially for a US Open.  Maybe I got lucky, but I was surprised at how flat most of the putts I had were... relatively speaking, of course.  The cut is probably going to be 56 at worst.

An AM type event for zero money is a good idea in theory.  Only trouble is around this place some egos I doubt could even play that fair by staying out if not a genuine first account.  Policing that would cost and be a hiding to nothing sadly, IMO.

Remember though most "up there" have zero chance once qualified.  It's once a year event that is open and if can you can and if can't you can't.  I shot a 56 and I think that will be plenty (and yes punditry is rubbish if they had to live by their predictions).  Some putts dropped that would not always for me.  Top players will have everything mapped very precisely, be better generally and prepare for the finals. Like many I will take a qualifying score and run to the hills with it LOL.  I intend playing the finals but will not be practising and will blow out immensely - Realism :)

It's set up below real difficult but a 54 is also everything circled, only the first is a realistic putting eagle chance and it's not low wind BPB on say stimp 11........57 will do it, IMO, and sure I am not putting money on it:)
