    YankeeJim:
IMO there's nothing to fix. WGT isn't swinging the putter.

    hey yankee:

do you work for wgt.  you really don't think there is anything wrong with hitting a putt on the fringe to go 6 feet and the ball goes 1 inch, come on dude, irl the putt would have made it to the green and on tourney greens at least would have been near the hole, not only 1 inch closer...

    lmfao

i'm in my 62 year of playing golf and have never struck a putt on the fringe that went 1 inch, unless wgt is allowing their fringes go grow to 5 inches, even then i would expect the ball to at least get on the green.

by the way, had the same problem with oakmont, on the fringe, slight uphill putt of 27 feet on tourney greens.  hit the putt for 30 feet and the ball moved all of 2 inches.  sorry dude, to me that's a PROBLEM.

Just for you, shoeman, I went and revisited  said problem. Figuring your old man eyes (ya got me by a couple) needed a visual I took the time to take a few pics. I'm more convinced there's nothing wrong now because if there's a problem that is that serious I would think it would have been addressed by now.

In the first shot the putt calls for 14 feet of power. The caddie says use the 100 ft scale. I put by avatar moves and 1 move on the 50 ft scale is 13 feet (for me) so I drop to the 50 foot scale, ignoring the caddie, and make the putt. Right distance, wrong aim, it winds up hole high 2.8 ft left. My bad.

The second shot is from the same amount of fringe but needs to be 7 feet of power. This is 1 move on the 15 foot scale BUT I know if I try that it will go 1". Sure enough, I do it anyway and it goes that 1". But then I knew it would. My shot should have been using the 50 ft scale and cancelling the first move. This rolled the putt by the hole 2 feet.

It isn't hard to get to fringe and work on the way it actually works in this game. You and I both know the stroke is different from fringe to green so accept that WGT has made it as realistic as they think it needs to be. It's up to you to figure out how to play it.

And no, I don't work for WGT, I just play what they put out. I do take a little time to try and understand the game's limitations and it certainly makes for a more enjoyable experience.   :-)

thanks yankee, didn't mean to insult you, should have been aiming at the programmers.

you state you understand the game's limitations, what i would do is insert "flaws or faults" for limitations, if wgt programmed a short putt from the fringe to go 1 inch, then the programmers have screwed up and should be working on this "limitation".

None taken, hoss.  FWIW, it took me a long time to accept these flaws too  but now that I have I just play around them. GL to you.   :-)

i have found putting from the fringe inconsistent and difficult to judge speed correctly. I get closer, and more likely to get par, if i chip it.

I agree with Tracy.  Nothing like ruining a great round with a 1 inch putt.  Putting from the fringe is way too inconsistent.

    For anything less than 10 yards I use a chip...10-14 yds a pitch....14-16 a flop...16-20 is usually a pitch....and from 20 yds or more, full.

But that's just me.  You need to go with what works for you....

    Hey Jim,

I agree that is the way to play the putt on WGT, but....the thing is you should get the same/similar results on the 15 foot scale...thing is you don't all the time...most of the time yes, but many times you get the "thunk" and reset to putt again.

Me?  To heck with it, I chip 99% of the putts from the fringe...lol
