Most newer Nvidia cards have a physics engine built into them.  I have the Nvidia gt 240 extreme with 1 gig of DDR3 ram.  The physics engine is part of their drivers that get installed.  I don't know much about this area, but may be worth taking a look at to improve overall game responsiveness and lighten the load on wgt servers.  If any you computer geeks here have more information on the newer video cards produced by nvidia and ATI that support gaming physics it may provide some light for WGT designers.

    Just my thoughts

The physics engine is actually the source code(software).  This software merely introduces the laws of physics.  Your video card driver allows you to use your video card as a Physics Processing Unit(PPU).  WGT does use a physics engine, but nothing like Commercial games such as Dead Space, Battlefield2, ect.  Looks like the engine they use is a basic collision detection of sorts.  But I'm not really sure.  Anything more complex would compel users to upgrade their equipment.  That's why your hair and shirt and pants don't blow on the tee at St. Andrews in a 20mph wind. That's also why the trees don't blow in the wind at Congressional.  All that would take more calculations and more bandwith. Besides, all your PPU does is take the physics calculation load off of your CPU.  Incorporating anything more would slow down both the server and the client.

That's the best I can come with off the top of my head, and some of it may be correct. :)
