It is very difficult to tell how much life is left in a ball once the ball had been used, I am aware that this depends on if it is hit into the rough etc, but I would find it very useful if it was possible to tell how many holes the ball could be hit under normal circumstances.

Bob, there is a meter on the bottom right on the PC Game. It shows your ball life. I'm not sure if mobile has it or not.

hitting in the rough has no affect whatsoever but putting apart from the fringe does not count as hit

About 4.5 to 5 nine hole rounds per ball, between 110 and 120 hits with balls of the type you use. If you shoot, let's say a 36 on average for 9 holes with 13 putts, you will put 23 hits on your ball. Putts do not count as ball hits unless you are on the fringe. In the SEARCH box to the right on this page, if you type in "ball durability chart" it will take you to forum posts with charts of many different balls and break down their cost per nine and so forth. :-)

+1 in principle, but the number spread is bigger. In 2012, a customers' essay showed 90 - 125 shots per ball, putts from the greens excluded. MAX balls were not in that mix, also not the other shiny&new Nikes etc. which both may or may not allow less hits. It was never tested.
