This is probably going to open up a can of worms but keep in mind this is MY OPINION.

I have done a considerable amount of programming and know a bit about algorithms and what it takes in coding to make things work.

First off,.... THANK YOU WGT for continuing with the best virtual golf game around. Probably in the world.

I have played now to level 85 so that means I have had to play a few games. I have played people all across the globe. Now and then I hear some really rude comments about WGT. Every bad connection is WGT fault,.. every bad shot is "I got WGT'ed ". Granted,.. there have been some unexplained results from a few shots I have taken. But when you are dealing with volumes of code I expect there are probably some bugs in the software here and there. Consider this,... every movement of the ball on every sort of terrain and wind condition and elevation, let alone ball types, club types etc etc are all programmed into this game for 100's if not 1000's of various conditions. You will have a code bit somewhere that says it was uphill when it was downhill or the like.

Connections from around the world can have an affect on your connection through all the WGT servers that try to make everything smooth as possible. Your own connection is not perfect all the time no matter what you have.

I really fail to believe ,... even a little,.. that the programmers for WGT have written code to "mess" you up or make you spend more money. If i thought that for a moment I would quit. That being said,... WGT is not here to NOT make money. It takes a heep of maintenance and money to keep this game running and online. If the new owners goal IS to just make money and let it go down hill then they are making a bad investment and will soon fail.

Bottom line for me,... I love this game. It is a real challenge to play good. I have seen players play extremely good with just starter clubs and balls. I am not that good and need the "better" equipment so I buy it,.. If someone has a better game or has some coding experience in this field of Flash and Networking then I am sure WGT would love to talk to you.

If you want to play a predictable golf game that will do the exact same thing everytime you hit it exactly the same way,... play Tiger Woods Ninetendo or XBox. It is great till I mastered it then it got boring. This game will never get boring, at least not for me.

    Thank You WGT!!

You're right concerning the game - it's amazing! Amazing in the idea to use real photos, amazing in the way this is working out with wonderful views of coveted courses, and amazing in the game's dynamics and physics! If not for these, I'd long be gone!

But, as a long time player like you, I see a downside, too.

Over time, quite a few gimmicks have been introduced which are more arcade-like - notably on mobile.

We may have the impression that all which happens here in terms of development might perhaps contribute to the fun of playing = consumer satisfaction, but, for sure, benefits their revenue.

A few items are connected with the latter:

    - we have to fear updates, because they usually come with broken details. Things which have been working for years fail!

    - these flaws and errors coming with the development are corrected only when they obscure revenue. If not, users' workarounds are good enough.

    - the company's public presence is dwindling sharply. Gone are the days of Icon's helpful advice aplenty, of Pizza's optimistic presence (*shivers*) and of a CEO showing up and speaking to his customers.

Game has gone to the dogs in my opinion, and has been heading that way for a long time. Ive often said it, when my credits run out, then im gone. It just so happens that i bought 2 sleeves with the last of my credits the other week (31 credits left as of now, lol), and im keeping them for the Andyson memorial tourny this year.

Yeah, its a long ways off, but i respected the chap so much that its what i want to do. When thats done and finished, then i can finally move on. I once loved this game to bits, but that love faded over the last couple of years. The game just isnt what it used to be anymore.

Good on you for believing this because I believe it, too. What you'll find are players that refuse to believe they make mistakes and constantly look for something/someone to blame. Others will claim something like the game going to the dogs. I've been playing for almost 9 years and still don't see mutts running around the courses. I DO see mutts trying to play it, though. LOL

There are some forces at work which people confuse for programer's evils.  The sightings of Trolls under the bridge at CCC at for example I believe are still the subject of investigables.  Easy to blame being rubbish as player on someone else, and the game is not at fault (odd and seldom WTFs aside or very few known be careful places to good players aside).

The basic core game was and is tremendous.  If you joined it for "real virtual golf" changing from skill based to buy a badge was a great shame.  The pinnacle of "competition" under the new ethos is that absolute nonsense of a farce that actually deletes all skill ...........

I have not brought myself to look half seriously at the mobile apparel superhuman suits and coins.

I do get the need to earn, but it's simply a shame that latter side.

Cheating and the lack of control is a turn off too.  Not as bad as many might say - the ones that think 29 at Merion B9 is beyond rare usually - but it's an issue.

Great core game though, as I always maintain.  I wish that side the best -  But I don't have any interest in coins, clashing for who can spend the most wins and superhuman suits.

I have played on WGT for 8 years- I have never noticed any real issues. However, I am suspecting that someone put VEM into my "actual golf" game. I mean, come on- I am clearly aiming at the pin, and the ball goes to the "other" fairway. Freaking unrealistic! 3 tries to get out of the bunker- I mean 2 (that is what is written on the scorecard)

    ; )

I guess some mutts where actually not bad at the game, but still see it as going downhill Jim. All a matter of opinion.

Utter drivel - misread the above.

    Apologies, Cowboy.

Depends on expectations and how one defines "going downhill". I happen to think the game is stronger now than it's ever been and the mobile growth side of it reinforces that.

Attrition is a natural occurrence in the overall scheme of things and to equate that with impending demise is a mistake. People come and go and will continue to do so but that isn't a sign of going downhill.

The first thing I do in an AS match is to look at join dates of the players. I see as many older dates as I do recent ones. A small sampling but I believe it's telling.
