thanks for taking the time to write all that bud, a good read.  Sorry I've not got back to you sooner, I've been rather busy here in old blighty ;)

Took some points and also bought a new shiny ball ;) I shot best 18 holes ever with it, 65 at Kiawah Island.  Yes I know I'm playing off easy tee boxes with slow meter speed but really nailing it now.   I'm looking for a shiny set of irons to improve my scores down to low 60's but with so many choices and so many mixed feelings in the comments section, I have no idea what to invest my money in.  I want something that's going to last me quite some time but also I want something that's going to keep me super competitive at the next few tiers.

Well Tony, I'm not sure what level you're at but the irons/woods that really dialed me in were the Ping K15s. To me they're about the best combination of length, forgiveness and meter speed. At Tour Pro level I was really kicking with these clubs. However, once I leveled up to Master it's become a whole different story. I upgraded to the Ping Rapture V2 for a little more yardage but still struggling with hitting from the laptop.

Don't forget wedges also; when you're close - say within 85 yards or so, they can really get you close to the pin and have a lot more spin than longer irons - just like in real life.

If you're still down the ladder a bit, even investing in the upgraded starter clubs should provide some noticeable improvement for you.

    Good luck!

    X

    TonyTurbo78:

Talking of which, I've read that having a large friend list might have a negative effect on your swing meter/accuracy....is this true?

Aparently it can, if you have a big list. When someone on your list logs on or off it can cause a meter stutter, obviously the more people on your list, the more likely it is that someone on it logs on or off during a round.

And congrats on the score, a -3 nine hole round at Oakmont is a very good achievement, at any level.

    Congrats Tony

If you ever catch me online on the weekend shoot me a msg and we'll play a round.

I'm simply horrible but I have a lot of fun being horrible. :D

thats all it should be about mate, just having fun.  Yes it's nice to play well and do well and fantastic to see improvement in our games, but definitely for me the fun factor is what keeps me playing this game first and foremost.
