I read Iconian's tutorial, but I simply cannot get consistent results.

Specifically, my biggest issue is that even when I believe have have the shot correctly metered, the ball will regularly roll 10'-15' past the hole.  This can be from any surface basically, though I'm aware that even slight misses from rough surfaces can vastly alter the shot.  But there are times when I've had an 8 yard chip from the fairway and hit the shot with good weight an accuracy only to end up with a 15' putt.

It's to the point where I often just lay up to avoid a possible chip/pitch because I simply can't control the shot.  Of course, it's a lot harder to score going layup-wedge and hopefully one putt, but it's very frustrating as chipping/pitching seems to be an automatic bogey for me.

    Use backspin!

Next, your coin gear + Starter ball is probably not good enough for the job. If you want to improve, buy two short ATV wedges (L39) and custom balls - B-ES or Tour-SD are a good start!

If you invest in just 1 wedge-specifically a 64 degree wedge like the Level 39 ATV-you will see an immediate difference that stops that. Add a ball with some spin and it's even better.
