Exactly what it sounds like: you can't sell clubs back to the pro shop when they are currently equipped in your bag. Just switch them out for the starter set in you bag and then you shouldn't have a problem.
Edit: As you apparently no longer have them equipped, it shouldn't be an issue. If it is, try clearing your internet cache.
