Whenever I sign into WGT I always take a keen interest on what has changed on the monthly leaderboard. A few names are always there, such as Spozz and of course, yoban. Now I hardly ever see him on the top of the pile, once or twice he has been, yes. But he never seem to be at the top at the end of each month. You might have noticed he is on level 101, but never the less, not quite the best.

Which made me think why that is. He clearly practices more than the rest of us do, and has been playing for a fair few years. Why is he not winning month in and month out? So that brought me to the thought that age might have something to do with it. But I'm not entirely convinced. I can understand the punishement a body will take wielding a real club at a certain age, as apposed to that of a youn ger man. But does the same apply to the click of a mouse? yoban clearly would be more savy than most around the fairways and greens, but put him head to head with a younger man, for instance, BolluxInBruges, he probably would put up a good show, but in the end, not win. Does age have a hand in how efficiently a player executes his game play?

Anyway, just pondering aloud, would appreciate any additional thoughts if you might have any.

    Hi,

As someone who has won monthly standings twice, using raptures/non-callaway ball, I can tell you, I did over 400 ready go's a month and worked full time. Try doing that and then see how you do. It's not easy and many times I would go do 5 rg's in a row and not even break 31 but I wouldn't stop to wonder where my game went and just move on as I had another 5 ready go's to do before bed.. I bet he does the same :)

Carpal tunnel syndrome, lol.  I'm not kidding!  I've gone through stretches where I'd play 15+ RGs in a row for several days and my right hand... particularly in the wrist area would start to hurt.

And then there's the quantity vs. quality aspect of it.  How long does it take for any serial WGT player to complete a 9 hole tourney or an 18 hole tourney? 15-30 minutes for 9 and 30-60 for 18?  Course knowledge for anybody with 2000 rounds under their belt is probably pretty good and you know where to put the drive, which side of the hole to land the approach, spin & check or roll it up to the hole.  You might know most breaks around the hole and how fast... but 1 thing I found out about reading greens is that there really are no 2 alike.  In order to can every putt and card a really low score, you do have to spend a nominal time reading speed and break.  If you are playing RGs as fast as you can so that you can get 20+ played in a day, I suspect you don't spend as much time reading some of the longish but makeable putts as you should.

This is the question posed, yet none of the above have offered their ages in their achievements.

I would suggest that age would definitley have an effect on your ability.

We lose degrees of our hand eye coordination as we get older, some have failing eyesight.. etc.

I would be interesting to have the sges of the top 10 players known and look deeply into their statistics.

are the younger ones getting better results on one aspect than older etc?

Haha yes, that is what i was getting at. I'm glad you spotted that.

It's an interesting thought that age might also effect online game play.

There definitely is a happy balance to be struck between quantity and quality. Playing a lot of RGs does burn you out, it really is a difficult way of maintaining a high level of performance week after week. Once you have caught the bug and have the desire to see your name as high up the earnings list as is possible, it really is a difficult habit to break. You feel like a hamster unable to get off the wheel.

Yoban is a fine player. I had the pleasure of partnering him once in an alt shot game and he played immaculately. I for one admire his incredible desire and ability to maintain such interest in the game cos I feel burnout already, lol....
