The key for me is knowing the greens. Being that every course at worst has 2 possible hole locations you will notice the flat areas around the pin. When hitting shots from the fairway or chips think of the flat areas and try and hit them, this will give you staighter putts and beter birdie chances. As for reading the hard putts; practice, in time it will become second-nature.
