  I feel like TW changing his swing.  I am about to really reconfigure my golf bag and having some trepidation.

  Right now, I carry the L62 R9 driver and wood, (sometimes)  L57 G10 hybrid, L58 G10 irons, (sometimes) L76 CG 56 degree, L78 CG 60 degree, L80 CG 64 degree, and the L72 2010 Redwood.  I almost always play Callaway i(z) balls.

  The hybrid I carry for certain courses.  I felt comfortable dropping the 56 degree with the ranges between my PW (115y), my 60 degree (80y) and 64 degree (60y).  And I find the hybrid can be very helpful on the longer par 4s and par 5s.  Also, the hybrid is the most useful tool when playing long shots from the rough.  If I am having a bad day with driver, I may throw it in my bag at any time.

  I'm level 83 (well, less than one round from 84).  In a few levels I will be upgrading my driver, but in the next few days, I will hit 85.  Here is my intention:

  At 88, I will get the L88 R11 driver.  This week, I intend to upgrade my 3wood to the R11, my hybrid to the R11.  I also intend to trade in my G10s for the TM Burner 2.0 irons.  I have BEEN TOLD that with the Callaway balls, you don't really notice the meter difference.  With the range of 125y PW to 80y 60 degree, I think I'll need the 56 degree at 100y to bridge the gap, especially since I am going to be longer and closer, particularly when I move to the R11 driver.  Well, at least until I shave those last 1.07 strokes off my average and tier up to Legend.  At that point, I may need the hybrid again, with a steady diet of the Legend tees.

  Feels like I'll be relearning how to play over the next week.  Still just learning what the top CG wedges can do, now I'll be relearning everything else but my putter.

  So, as far as the equipment WGT has available, the end result should be my FINAL bag in a couple of weeks:

  L88 R11 driver (NEW)

  L85 R11 3wood (NEW)

  L82 R11 hybrid (optional carry) (NEW)

  L79 TM Burner 2.0 irons (NEW)

  L76 CG 56 degree (optional carry)

  L78 CG 60 degree

  L80 CG 64 degree

  L72 2010 Redwood putter

  Callaway i(z) balls

   

  Any suggestions pertaining to the new clubs would be greatly appreciated.  For example, the G10 irons have a few foibles.  The 9 iron plays stronger than listed, will fly farther than expected with BS.  The 7 and 6 irons are weak, especially the 7 and most especially when played with full BS.  I have hit 146 of 160 with a 100% shot, 6MPH crosswind, full BS, no elevation.  Do the Burners have any clubs that tend to perform differently than the listed stats?  Are there any wrinkles with the R11 driver, wood, or hybrid (if anyone uses it) that would be good to know?

  One thing to consider in choosing one's wedges is that the Burner PW punches to a listed distance of 108 and stops very well for a punched shot.  Second, with the burner 3I rated at 220 one has less use for any hybrid club...provides one an opportunity to always carry 3 wedges in addition to the PW.   I personally carry a 100yard wedge, punches 82; a 75 yard wedge, punches 62, and a 50 yard wedge, punches 41....HB3

  PS...all the distances given above are the WGT default distances...the clubs and balls one uses will , of course, alter these distances to a degree

  As long as you expect to do some relearning I would highly recommend following Harve's advice about the third wedge. The 3W and the HB do pretty much the same thing and the punch with the 3W is an excellent shot.

  You know you use the wedge many more times in a round than that HB. Why waste the slot?

  I usually do carry the three wedges, but I find the hybrid to really be more useful... here's why.  I can get any distance from my PW to my 64 degree with any of the wedges.  I feel comfortable hitting an 80y wedge 60y, or a PW 85y.  But the hybrid is the best club I have found for coming out of the rough, and I feel less comfortable scaling down my 3W for shots between that and the 3 iron, than I do scaling down a wedge.

  However, I did have the G10 hybrid, and as was mentioned, since I got the Burner 2.0 set, the 3 iron goes as far as the hybrid I had did.  So, no need for the hybrid.

  You're concerning yourself with the distance from the 240 yard 3w to the 220 yard 3i at the cost of a much more versatile wedge. That doesn't make sense to me. The R11 3w does a great job of getting you back in play from just about anywhere. Not 15 minutes ago at CCC I punched back into the fairway from 60-70 with it and full top spin. It's also great from BPB 40-50, especially on the back 9 where it's easy to find.

  This is not to say your way won't work. DarSum only carries 2 wedges and he's rocking so it can be done. I would just think with your ability you would opt for the up close coverage to be as extensive as possible. It's going to change for you very quickly with that 61.74 average. Don't shoot yourself in the foot.  ;-)

  No, before I had the G10 irons it was 235 to 210.  But I have usually played three wedges.  No relearning needed.  However, I had gotten good enough with my PW that I felt perfectly comfortable hitting it anywhere from 115 to 80y, my CG 60 degree anywhere from 80y to 60y, and my CG 64 degree anywhere from 60y in, so really, a third wedge was just as much a wasted slot.  Seemed like I would have had a wasted slot no matter which way I went.  However, now my 3 iron goes as far as the hybrid I did have, and also my PW is 125 instead of 115 now, so I prefer a wedge between it and the 60 degree (80y).
