I made this suggestion a number of years ago and there was some great commentary http://www.wgt.com/forums/t/272749.aspx

I think with Wolf Creek coming up, its time to resurrect this idea.  Although country clubs can now do their own custom most beautiful holes course, it still would be a great thing to have  a WGT Best of Beautiful Holes course.  I would think the tech for it would be fairly simple now, as its no different than setting up a custom course.  What could really make this fun is to make it an event.  I would propose a ballot somewhere, like here in the forum, allowing people to vote on the most beautiful picturesque holes on the courses that we have, although it would sure be nice if we could add Cabo or Whistler to it.

There are so many gorgeous holes at Pebble, St. Andrews and I am certain Wolf Creek will add a few, and leave the par 3's to Bandon.  Even some of the inland courses like Congressional and Olympic have some beauties.  The time for this idea has come.  I'd rather we made this course selected more universally, unlike the last time that the winning clash clubs did it...we all know what club that would be.  I'd love to hear some nominations for most beautiful holes here, I think I'm going to do a custom course for our club.  How's about it WGT?

Here is my list with the proviso that I included at least one from all of the full courses we have here.

    1.  Pebble #6  Par 5                              10.  Wolf Creek #17  Par 5

    2.  Wolf #4  Par 4                                   11.  Pinehurst  #18 Par 4

    3.  Olympic #18 par 4                             12.  Bandon Dunes #6 Par 3

    4.  Erin Hills #9  par 3                            13.  Pebble #8  Par 4

    5.  Kiawah #2  Par 5                               14.  RSG #6 Par 3

    6.  Congressional #18  par 4                  15.  Chambers Bay #11 Par 4

    7.  Merion #11 par 4                                 16.  St. Andrews #18  Par 4

    8.  Bethpage #5  par 4                              17.  Merion #16  Par 4

    9.  Pebble #7  par 3                                  18.  Pebble #18  Par 5

How about other's giving a list of what holes they would include??

That's a tough call to keep it to 1 per course. WC is astounding in its surreal beauty, especially from the reverse view of approach shots. You find yourself marveling at the sheer accomplishment of carving a spectacular golf course out of that landscape.

WGT would do well to expand on your idea, turn it into a calendar and sell it.  :-)

I was just trying to include at least one from each course we have now.  I would have loved to include Cabo, Whistler or Oakmont!  Pinehurst I struggled with the most...I just don't think its a pretty course, so I included that last hole with the clubhouse, which looks pretty damn good when you get finished at Pinehurst!  I agree about WC..I could have made the whole thing Pebble and Wolf Creek obviously.  Thanks for posting, hopefully it gets some steam, Jim.

Perhaps my eyesight is failing, but where is Royal St George? Ahh, no beauty there? All this leads to the question  of what is beautiful and what is not. Did Hieronymus Bosch create beautiful pictures? Eye of beholder would have to be the answer.

    HackWilson1930:

what is beautiful and what is not.

There's the fly in the ointment.

@papagrasutu, I  have been thinking about this since I first read your post. I love the idea, but I would be no help at all. I know which courses I find beautiful. When I play Merion, Congressional, Pebble Beach and Wolf Creek, I can't find a single hole to not include. lol ...and that doesn't even start to consider Cabo and Whistler. I do know this though... If you ever figure it out, I will give it a go.

    Good luck

I fixed it, maybe a little less beautiful, but now all inclusive, No. 6 at RSG is considered its signature hole.  And beauty is difficult to define...but I know it when I see it.  ;-)

    As do we all........

Thus the difficulty in getting a consensus!
