    There is a long appendage of what looks like fairway that extends from the small center part of the fairway area to the tee. The ball if it lands there it  says it is rough when it clearly looks like fairway. Is this something that someone overlooked?

    Simple answer: It's rough.

    It is indeed rough , but  what has been overlooked here by you and most others is that you need to view your mini-map very closely and play the fairway to the left. It's quite reachable with your current equipment.  It will make for a longer approach , but  will keep you in the short grass. It also provides quite a nice angle in.
