    Hi there,

From what I've read on these forums, a lot of players seem to have 3 Wedges, which means they've removed one of their Woods.

I currently have a Driver, a 3 Wood and a Hybrid ( with max distances of 247, 222 and 202 respectively ). I still have the Starter Sand and Starter Lob wedges. My Starter Plus Irons gives me 180 max.

So, if I were to get 3 Wedges and lose a Wood, which do I lose? The 3 Wood or the Hybrid? I'm planning to upgrade my Irons soon, which'll increase their max distance to approx. 200, so maybe that means I won't need the Hybrid anymore?

And I assume if I go with 3 wedges, I choose the three angles that give me the best distance increments from the highest of my new Irons ( which'll be 110 ) down ( i.e. maybe something like 50, 70 and 90 )?

Hope all that makes sense, any help appreciated! Thanks...

    J.

Removing your Hybrid would by far be the best option.

As for your wedges, choosing even increments is a great place to start, but make sure that they are good wedges first. Don't solely make your choice based off of how far the club will travel.

    Hi

they can do that because their irons are longer... For example: when I used raptures v2 my 3i topped out at 200, so I needed 225 fairway wood and 240 3w. (some courses, i'd just carry 225 and dump 240)

now, my 3i tops out at 220, so 225 becomes useless and I just carry 240 3ws. on the other hand though, my PW was 110, so I could get away with 95, 75, 50. now that my pw is 125, I need 100, 80, 50 wedges.

so, in the end, it kinda works out because you will either put wedge at bottom to get a better yardage without choking or on top to cover the gap between 3w and 3i.

Ultimately you should ask yourself which club is going to lower your score and what club will you use most. The extra wedge is probably going to be the answer.  GL

I only carry one wood, depending on course or wind conditions it's a 3w or 3h.

I haven't carried a hybrid in over a year using 3 wedges. At times depending on the course and conditions I even drop the 3 wood and carry 4 wedges. Then there is my CTTH setup with no woods and 5 wedges. But I have been trying to decide if i should get the R11 hybrid and drop the 3 wood @ Congressional. The hybrid would come in handy @ #2. It always seems to be right in between my 3 wood distance and my 3 iron. And you could probably reach # 6 with the hybrid.  No the r11 hybrid is only 5 yards longer than the burner 3 iron so I'll just have to learn to choke the 3 wood better on some holes.

Excellent, thanks for all your advice!

I reckon I'll get two Wedges to replace the starters I have ( probably a 64 and 60 wedge ) and then when I upgrade my Irons I'll get a 56 Wedge as well and replace the Hybrid. Thanks a lot!
