I am looking at the fact that I may (and I stress may) being only able to upgrade one club for at least the rest of the year. I'm using all Starters, and with me being at Tour Pro level, Bethpage Black is almost unplayable for me. (Oakmont is tough too). I am thinking that the one club that would really help is getting a new driver, but I want some input. The game is losing some of its charm because I'm tired of feeling like a liability on the tee during AS games as well as struggling so much on BB. So...

Should I get a new driver? Or should I put that cost towards a different club(s)?

Depends on your iron play...but yes, closer to the pin is mostly a good thing.

First advice would be to do surveys and offers to earn enough credits to upgrade all your clubs. But if it was to be just one then I'd make it a satin wedge.

I got the limited edition satin and lace wedge. My approach shots look so pretty now. It was a gift from my future bride Nic-eisha, don't know where she found it. Think it was leftover stock at the bargain barn in Jasper, Ga.

I'm going to break from the previous posters and give you the red meat that you are looking for: I would (if you have the credits) upgrade to the driver. You can have the best short game in the world, but this game will just flat out not be fun if you are so short off the tee that you can't play a hole correctly.

If you can handle the meter, buy either the lvl 58 G10 or the lvl 62 R9. If you can't, do the lvl 29 R11.

I remember when i joined 2 1/2 yrs ago, all we had were the Starters. And I can still remember buying the Tour Starter driver when it was offered ... only 5 yrds longer, but it was a HUGE 5 yards. That was about the time that Bethpage was released, and BP from the black tees with Starters was beyond tough. The extra 5 yrds or so with the Tour Starter was very often the difference between fairway and rough on several holes.

If you want 1 club that will make a difference NOW, go for the best driver that your level & credits allow.

Edit- Ninja'd by Josh..........but he's exactly right .... the best wedges in the world will do you absolutely no good if you can't get in a position to use them! Same goes with a better putter... while you make more 25-30 footers with it, it would be much better to NOT have to  try to make them.

Since your are level 58, I would go with the G10 driver for 980 credits and then get a satin wedge good for 50 yds for about 200-250 credits.  This driver will last until you hit level 88 and make it to legend tier.

The driver will have a ripple effect on your shot selection. Getting closer off the tee means you'll be  using clubs with more control, albeit starters, and you won't be struggling with longer iron approaches while your ops are hitting shorter ones.

I've always espoused getting a wedge first because of the immediate impact on several things like GIR and distance from pins but in your case, if 1 club is the limit, I think the driver will make you happier.  GL
