In your settings is an option for "Customize Equipment". Change this setting to ADVANCED. This will change it so the top slots in your bag are optional so you can change your clubs however you would like just like you did before.
Once in Advanced mode when you select any optional slot there will be tabs at the top to switch between Drivers, Woods/Hybrids, and Wedges.
The setup only allows players to swap one item with another. Choose the item you would like to replace from the left side of the screen, then choose the tab at the top of the club-type you would like to equip. Choose the item you want and select EQUIP on the right side of the screen.
