I hit my approach shot a little strong and went into the water behind the green.  But, the ball hit the green, bounced once into the rough then one final bounce into the water.  I was expecting my next shot to be from the rough behind the green but I it went back to the original position in the fairway.

    Why?

Water penalty is “stroke and distance.”  (Unless it’s lateral water; then you can get the benefit of ball flight and where it landed before the washing).

Sometimes, IRL, you can elect to drop behind the water hazard, but on Congressional 18, WGT figures you don’t want to shoot from up by the clubhouse, millions of yards away.

Thanks,  that clears it up. 👍
