I have sent this email to the helpdesk at WGT:
Good morning gentlemen,
Yesterday I was in a game with ******, ****** and another member I
can't recall. We were at SA 15 and I hit a drive 393 yards with the
help of wind and, of course, a lucky bounce. All were amazed at the
feat with me being the most amazed of all. We completed the game,
which I duly lost, but the stat did not record in my profile and I
would be very grateful if after the customary cross-checks with the
said members this could be adjusted for me.
I have removed the aliases/names for obvious reasons to post here.
The reply I received back read, roughly:
For the long drives to be recorded the shot needs to be taken with a driver, not a hybrid or an iron or FW and the ball needs to rest on either the fairway or the green. The rough, water and out of bounds does not count.
I guess technically they are correct in not awarding the drive since it rolled just, and I mean just, onto the rough on the left hand side of the fairway. While I find that OOB and water as well as deep, way out of the fairway rough is justified, just rolling onto the very side of fairway is a bit harsh.
I will probably never have the opportunity of such a great drive and will live with the borderline ruling in this case.
But what I would like to know from wgt users is what they think this ruling should be in the future, after all the ball traveled 393 yards towards the hole irrespective of the ruling.
