I thought they were for competition buy ins, and for the purpose of clothing and personalizing your avatar. When I do so Every item seems to have a gold coin charge, what am I missing?
in the app click on the name picture in the upper right hand corner. Then click on edit apparel, then click on what ever piece of apparel you want to add or upgrade.

You cannot purchase Apparel Items from the ProShop with the Silver Coins. You can use them to upgrade the Apparel items you win through Sponsor boxes playing coin games (as shown in above post)
