Hi WGT players. I know this sounds lame but. Wondering if someone could shed some lite on this before I throw my tablet out the window. My shot distance varies so much from hole to hole. Let’s say the hole is 175 and I hit 190 and come up 17 yards short. Next time same distance and I’m 20 yards over the green. I know the wind has a big play but wind is roughly the same on both type shots. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Did back spin or top spin change? and are we talking about same course/same hole?

Spin will affect your distance and almost all these course play different as far as wind, a 10mph wind on Pinehurst is much different than 10mph wind on chambers or pebble

I presume the responses you got when you asked the exact same question this past January were not helpful.

Shot Distance Help - World Golf Tour (wgt.com)

For what it's worth, many holes do not play the distance you would think they do. Some holes need some extra yards, and some may need less. When you see that the distances seem off, each time you play the same hole, I would make a note of it. Next time, add, or subtract, the extra distance you noted.  Those holes that play different than the posted yardage are usually consistent, each time you play that hole, depending on the same pin position.

Then, there other holes which the distance, or elevation, is just plain wrong (like a certain par 3 on Torrey).

Finally, if you come across a hole that the distance, or elevation, seems off, try using the search box to the right of this screen and search the forum for comments about that particular hole. Those that are notoriously off are generally discussed.

If you haven’t already, would suggest mapping your clubs. And now may be a good time to consider new irons (and maybe a ball with more spin)

+1 on Hamdenpro's response.....there are definitely holes where they play either longer or shorter than you expect, and while i dont take notes, after the first 95 times playing it, it eventually gets through my thick head to adjust for the hole.  I dont know if it is an error in the way they designed the course, or what it is, but just another one of those things that makes the game interesting to say the least.  I do get what the OP is saying though....the other day i hit a 5 iron in very light wind which should usually go 195 yds, and it hit the bunker at 158.  I just put that down to something like real life golf...lets just say i chuncked it a bit and move on.  I have no idea why it only went that far, but i do know that probably 80% of the shots behave the way i expect them to......which is waaaaaaaay more than real life...:)
