  World Cup final referee admits he made a mistake during Argentina vs France . Petition going around France to have final replayed . Two Argentina substitutes were on the field of play when Messi put the ball past France captain Hugo Lloris in the 108th minute . French media have also pointed towards the rules of the game which, according to the FA, state: "If, after a goal is scored, the referee realises, before play restarts, an extra person was on the field of play when the goal was scored. "The referee must disallow the goal if the extra person was a player, substitute, substituted player, sent-off player or team official of the team that scored the goal; play is restarted with a direct free kick from the position of the extra person."

  However, Marciniak was slammed by the French media for allowing Lionel Messi’s extra-time goal to stand after footage emerged showing three Argentina substitutes breaking FIFA rules by entering the pitch before the ball crossed the line.

  But the 41-year-old, who officiated his first World Cup match in 2018 in Russia, hit back at his critics by presenting a screenshot of seven France players standing on the pitch when Kylian Mbappe scored his equalizing penalty in extra time.  ;-)

  Dodgy has a good point. There were lots of officiating mistakes made during the world cup. Just like in every other major sport. I think this issue is DOA. The Argentine squad won the world cup...end of.
