I was playing #1 at the Olde Course in a 100 coin 9 hole bracket event. Drive was centre fairway, 47 yards from back left pin. Green was 11.5 tournament and there was a 14-16 mph tailwind. I hit a full spin 64 degree wedge what I felt was perfectly for the wind/distance/conditions. Inexplicably, the view that came up when I hit the shot was overhead from the back of the green, showing my ball racing from the back of the green to the front….into the water. I have no idea how this occurred. I am tour master level (65.4 average) and have 270+ rounds under my belt. I’ve never seen anything like this before.
It turned what likely would have been a birdie into a double bogey, not to mention a lost tour ball, and will likely cost me advancing in the bracket.
The only possible explanation I can think of is the ball having struck the bottom of the pin dead on the fly and ricocheting straight backwards.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
