By the time you add the extra wedge, then the punch shot with them you are almost never in between clubs.

100% the reason for considering it in the first place. Add the pitch, chip and flop to the equation and the yardage gaps get very small.  It's real easy to say to your p  "I'll take any lie-go for it."  :-)

Ok. Weighed up the options, through thought and practice.

After having played Bethpage and Congresh I've decided carrying a 3 Wood is the all round best way to go (for me). Going to just think about the little green line and how much of it I need for each wedge instead of sacrificing the 3 Wood.

Thanks for the idea's everyone. Very productive.

Hope to see some of you out there soon. Maybe Priestess can wait a while before we have our game...You're far too intimidating a player. Give me a few more months of practice ;).

    Cheers.

I find that 4 wedges work out ok off Legend tee's as they R11 3 iron shoots 225 yards it doesn't seem to be a problem to me , i carry satin 50 , 75 clevland lower level , 105 clevland lower level , and a 110 satin when i re buy lol

I finally got tested without the 3W. Par 3 2nd at CCC with 12 wind in your face-you ain't getting on the green anywhere near the pin.

Like I said earlier, I wouldn't recommend this in serious competition and quite frankly, the addition of the CG 115 wedge in place of the 3W doesn't really add anything extra. With the set PW at 120 and punching 103 the only thing I get extra is the punch with the 115 at 96.

    Experiment over-wasn't worth it.  :(

Awwww, that sucks YJ! But me being the stubborn person I am, I'm going to continue to keep the dream alive and use the 4 wedges. And for right now, I'm keeping my Burners instead of buying the R11 irons. I just can't justify the price of the R11's for a bit better bite on the green and an extra 5yds. difference. Might change my mind somewhere down the road though.

You will when you realize the 3 4 and 5 irons are key clubs from Legend tees. They hold those long approaches like the Burners can't.

The only real reason I went to the 4th wedge was because of 90+ yard approaches. You can choke the CG100 easily enough but that tends to cause problems on missed dings, especially using back spin. Being able to punch the 115 to 96 took care of this but that Par 3 at CCC was telling. Plus the long par 4s with wind in your face get tougher without the 3W.
