  Is there a way to put backspin on the ball?

  With the equipment that you currently use you cannot get very much backspin.

  The best you can do is full backspin on the ball.(move the green dot to the bottom of the ball at the bottom right of your game screen)

  Leave yourself a full wedge for your approach shots. Half shots do not check up as fast.

  Yeah like Soulcatcher said just move the green ball down on the lie indicator at the bottom of the screen. This will put backspin on the ball, even though the ball may not back up.

  
  I've only seen a few shots actually back up before, and that was on the Par 3 over the water at Bethpage (can't remember the hole) with the wind blowing in my face...
