    EEK!!

I shot a rather nice 63 in the STA full 18 this morning (Mod. winds. Champ. greens)- amazingly good for 3rd ATM in that ready go.

So i figured I was ready... or rather as ready as I'd ever be.

I guess no one can be ready for 27 MPH head winds on both par 5s and 27 MPH tailwinds on both par 3s and 27 MPH sidewinds on just about everything else!

Started bad, I 4 putted on #2 - played like a zombie trying to keep my rotting arms from being ripped off by the wind after that. Awesome par saving putt on 17 to stay -1, but 3 putted on #18 to  be EVEN for the round.

Last place! (for now) c'mon guys I know someones going to do worse than that! get on it!

Holy **** forget about me and that next top 3 streak paul lol. These were absolutely brutal conditions and some VERY poor shots didnt help either (hit the hill at 12 short, hit the hill at 18 short, missed a 5ft par putt at 17)... wow

    better luck to you guys!

yep eek lol, but don't worry, in the words of Icon - it will even itself out and one day you will get good winds

But maybe you can be consoled by the fact that the winner probably had tailwinds on the par 5's and the driveable par 4's

Maybe thats whats meant by 'evening itself out' lol

LOL thats a really good question - maybe you should ask the winner?

Seriously though, another single play tournament with heavy winds at St Andrews, by my reckoning if you get good wind direction

#2 Drive and wedge - should be close and birdie chance with tailwind

    #5 Eagle chance - tailwind

#8 Better chance birdie with headwind

    #9 Green driveable with tailwind

    #10 Green driveable with tailwind

#11 Better birdie chance with headwind

    #12 Green driveable with tailwind

    #14 Eagle chance - tailwind

#17 - Left - Right or tailwind, birdie chance, headwind you're fighting for Par

    #18 Green driveable with tailwind

Discount the other holes where wind may/may not help, but this is over 50% of the holes where the wind directions can have a huge influence on the ability to eagle/birdie/par

I don't really go with the theory supported by Icon that this is fair - if two legends, lets say two top legends with about the same average play, and one gets this wind set and the other get exactly the opposite how many strokes would he/she win by?  And lets face it he/she would win

I had headwind in ready go (but only 27 max) on nearly every hole, apart from the dodgy south westerly's which you are not sure if its going to come short or go full distance, and i scored one of my best rounds ever, i was cussing the wind until i realised i was on a hot round and then wasn't really bothered, but i understand what you are trying to say, If i hadn't of scored well in this particular round i WOULD have cussed the damn wind, but it seemed to work for me that round, but i would much prefer the wind you've set out above, but knowing my luck in championships, i will get 29 mph headwind on every birdie-able  hole, and 30 mph tailwind on the par #3's.  And i will bet my house that i get 28 mph wind at between 5 and 7 o'clock on 17.

So far i'm on #5 and have had headwind on every single hole, but what gets me is the 29 mph wind which is inbetween 6 oclock and 7 o'clock, looks more headwind than anything else, i aimed well right to compensate, but my ball still landed 10 yards to left of pin as if it was 20 mph right left wind and not the 29 mph wind at say 6.5 o clock.

Will stop now want to concentrate on round.lol..Good luck every one else!!!!

wgt must have seen i was doing o.k HEADWIND on every f'kin hole on back 9, .LOL  even my birdie long putts which were going for hole would spin round the rim and not drop, and laugh of the round came on #16, my approach was bouncing forward to hole's esdge, just as it was about to drop, it spun back 2 yards....there's clevelands for you.  Hope you all are getting an enjoyable round too..regardless of the horrid winds.

Only 2 shots off the lead, not bad, (and i know where i lost those 2 shots asell.. my approach with pw coming short on #12 and rolling down bank on green and a missed 9 footer on #14)

Its good when it does work out - and I'm not even trying to say you can't score well in the high winds, but if you'd had the set above on a 'hot' round I bet you could have trimmed a few shots off what you did score, what really does it for me at St Andrews is that you can drive (at least) 4 greens with a good tailwind so thats 4 eagle chances to none with a headwind, and two eagle chances to none on the 5's

Saying none however, I know you can eagle your approach but I'm looking at putting chances really - If a good legend is on the green in 2 and then putting the chances are they will at least birdie the six holes mentioned, with a headwind you're approach shot is for birdie putt - I know I'd rather have 6 eagle putts than  6 approach shots for birdie putt (sorry stating the obvious but thats how the wind can affect the round, take those 6 holes in isolation you are -6 at least without much effort which is a great boost to a score)

After completing round there's an option to practice.  Was this there before you entered, or is it only after your first round you get to practice some more???

its there to frustrate you - its not the practice button, its the evening out button, you get great winds in your practice game then c**p winds in your real round

I had just ONE tailwind on the back 9 and it was inevitably on 11....24 mph 11 o'clock gale...

I had 30 mph against on all reachable par 4s and the par 5..... soldiered on though, can't complain. Missed two putts that I should have made
