Invariably of late, when I play Showdown, at some stage the game will freeze, lock me out then give me bogeys for unplayed holes.

Of late? That bug has been around since day 1 of showdowns (have a quick search of the forum and you'll find a million threads on it); it has never been fixed and never will be fixed because they don't know how to.
